Diane Ware & Gary Soloman
Diane Ware & Gary Soloman

White Lotus Natural Health & Wellbeing is a boutique day spa retreat located in the foothills of the beautiful Yarra Ranges, at the edge of the forest in Narbethong.

It offers a unique selection of spa & massage therapies, couples accomodation in the Treehouse Garden Cottage, along with a fine selection of small gifts and spa products in the gift shop. Spa Therapist Di Ware, originally from Alexandra, and legendary rock musician, Gary Soloman, have combined their talents to create a sanctuary to share with those wanting a unique relaxation experience in the private surrounds of this beautiful property.

The historic homestead, the old Narbethong Post Office, is a well known local landmark steeped in a rich history, that dates back to the late 1800’s when horse-drawn mail coaches navigated the unmade, winding and mountainous Black Spur Road fully laden with mail and supplies, that delivered to the front door. Back in the late 1990’s Gary began breathing ‘life and soul’ back into the property, that began with the painstaking task of clearing the land. He planted many fruit trees and updated general amenities to transform the iconic landmark into its current picturesque setting – offering outstanding views of the surrounding lush forest and tall gums.

Gary had been residing in the Narbethong/Marysville area for the previous ten years before the Black Saturday bushfires.

He was operating a recording studio set amongst the beautiful Yarra Ranges before the fires hit. As with most traumatic events, his life was changed forever – as were countless others. In late 2009 Gary and Diane began building the infrastructure for what is now the White Lotus Day Spa & Retreat. Like many other Australians, the power and resilience of the human spirit prevailed.

The culmination of years of hard work since the bushfires have resulted in the creation of this outstanding business, symbolising beauty rising up through adversity – just like the white lotus flower. Gary and Diane were originally attracted to the area because of its natural beauty, strong arts and music culture and the community’s welcoming spirit. The Murrindindi region has a rich heritage with many historical landmarks, some of which survived the fires -including the Old Narbethong Post Office and the neighbouring Black Spur Inn.

The rebuilding process has been underway for four years now, and many business’s are back in operation.

They are optimistic about their own new and exciting business. Visitors can enjoy the regions many attractions, including walking trails, rivers and waterfalls, fishing, boating, camping and ski-field activities set against picturesque mountains and rolling hills. This region is known as the mystic gateway to food, wine and hospitality. What they love most about the area is being able to enjoy all the advantages of a relaxed country lifestyle, while being only a 90 minute drive from Melbourne.

The White Lotus Spa Menu boasts exquisite treatment choices, each one personally delivered by Di herself – warm clay or organic cococream body wraps, bamboo and ginseng or coffee and seakelp body exfoliations, aromatherapy and concept facials with elixirs. Pure plant extracts are very popular along with exotic hair, hand & foot treatments. The Cleopatra milk & honey bath soak is a must, and is often followed up with a Hawaiian hot stone or relaxation massage. Meditation classes are also available on request. Clients walk through the door and often feel the outside pressures melt away even before they begin their treatment. This was their intention – to create a very special environment for people to feel safe and relaxed, and to reconnect with themselves.

The Treehouse accomodation mirrors the style and comfort of the day spa rooms. Within a private compound in the Buddha Garden sits a little two-storey self-contained cottage that includes a king-sized bed, luxury linen, soft lounges and a fully-equipped kitchen – conveniently located only a few steps away from the day spa. Breakfast is provided along with a complimentary hamper of local wine & produce. If guests don’t wish to prepare their own meals, the Black Spur Inn just across the road offers chef-cooked meals seven days a week.

The White Lotus Gift Shop, which was the original post office room, stocks an interesting range of giftware, extraordinary teas, and spa products to ensure that your “spa stay experience” is continued at home. They allow you to retain the special memories made in your visit to White Lotus.
