In December, students had to recreate their own experience of a Walk the Talk session.

Walk The Talk is an education program in conjunction with The Long Walk. Walk The Talk tells the story of Michael Long’s walk to Canberra to encourage students to create change, while assisting in meeting the ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and cultures’ cross curriculum priority of the Australian National Curriculum.

The grade-six students chose to write and choreograph their own song and dance routine to represent their understanding of the Stolen Generation.

Representatives from The Long Walk, including former Bomber Nathan Lovett-Murray presented the winning students with a signed and framed photo of Essendon players during Dreamtime week. Lovett-Murray then spoke about the Walk The Talk program and recounted his own story from growing up in Heywood to playing on the big stage in 145 games for the Bombers.

Following Lovett-Murray’s presentation, the winning group then performed the song and dance before taking part with the wider grade in traditional Indigenous games.

Congratulations to the six winning grade-six students from Kilmore International College and all students who took part in the semester two challenge.
