Professor Kunlun Zhang is a graduate of the Sculpture Department of the Chinese Institute of the Arts. He specializes in sculpture, oil painting and Chinese painting.

He was formerly the director of the Institution of Sculpture at the Shandong Art Institute and later became the director of the college’s Sculpture Research Institute.

A recipient of many awards, Professor Zhang has participated in numerous art exhibitions in China and abroad.His achievements have been listed in many respected publications, including Who’s Who in the World. Encyclopedia of outstanding Chinese in the World and A collection of Sculptures from around the World.

Though a highly respected artist and professor Zhang was arrested multiple times in China for his practice of Falun Gong.

He was beaten, shocked by electric batons and sentenced to three years in prison. In 2001 through the efforts of his friends, family and the Canadian government, his release was secured. Zhang describes his practice of Falun Gong as instrumental in his evolving deepening insight into the understanding of the universe and life. Over coming the trauma of torture has inspired Zhang and shaped much of his recent art. His experience in self cultivation taught him that gods do exist.

Zhang grew up an atheist in communist China. Through the practice of Falun Gong, he began to understand the immense vastness of the universe and the mysteries of nature and life.

On July 20th 1999 Falun Gong was banned in China, and since that date 16 years ago many thousands of practitioners have been tortured in an effort to “transform” them. Part of the exhibition deals with the terrifying ordeals people – including the artists themselves – have gone through.

Zhang is the co founder of The Art of Zhen Shan Ren International Exhibition. It has now had over 800 showings around the world and sill expanding to many more countries .

All the artists practice Falun Gong, they have come to realize that the purest and most beautiful form of artistic expression is through the orthodox arts.The paintings in this exhibition helps illustrate the glorious path of the artists, as they strive to revive the foundation of human morality, return to orthodox art forms and spread the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance throughout the world.

Falun Gong is a spiritual self cultivation practice of mind and body that helps improve health and well being. It is practiced by millions around the world, a self that’s free of notions and attachments. Professor Zhang and the artists, hope to deliver the glory of Falun Gong and expose the persecution.

The Art of Zhen Shan Ren is a historic record of Falun Gong practitioners as they attempt to safeguard justice and peace while upholding their values.
