SITHOM 2015

Emma McPherson
look away

I have always been drawn to the images of Henri Cartier Bresson and the philosophy of the decisive moment in street photography.

To be part of the Shot in the Heart of Melbourne exhibition this year has been a great way for me to not only hone the skills of this creative genre but also push my confidence as a photographer in the public space.

Coming from a regional community in Victoria’s North East it is not always easy to get to the ‘big city’ or feel at home in it. By taking my camera into the streets I have found a new way of looking and fitting in.

I have had my focus drawn to the people rather than the buildings and the idiosyncrasies that make Melbourne the vibrant city it is.
