Melbourne Architecture Annual

Lego for Fed Story

Melbourne, which is still only a young city, is a melting pot of old and new architecture, influenced by architecture and planning schemes from all over the world, from the Hoddle Grid plan of the CBD, the Bluestone replicas and Neo-Gothic cathedrals, to the curtain wall skyscrapers of the present day, they all intertwine to make Melbourne the unique city that it is.

The festival explored the architecture of the built form; the planned environments that we live within and around that are shaped by and for the community. It explored the opportunity architecture and architects have to provide for and change communities for the better.

Take that down to a smaller scale and pour out 4 barrels of Lego in Fed Square on a glorious sunshine filled Sunday morning. We had mini-cities, never-ending towers pushing Lego to its limits, and one carefully constructed white brick mansion. The event ran well into the afternoon with families passing by, joining in, and feeling part of their community.
