Mai Fali Eh! The Boite Schools’ Chorus 2012

Boite School Chorus

The Boite Schools’ Chorus is an inspiring music program for ages 8 – 18 that has performed at The Edge since 2010.

Young singers have the opportunity to engage with professional artists, discover unique musical sounds in our community and explore social and environmental themes in the classroom.
In 2012, The Boite Schools’ Chorus discovered the music and culture of Australia’s nearest neighbour Timor Leste in a project called Mai Fali Eh!
Mai Fali Eh is the name of a children’s song in Timor Leste. The words tell the story of a mother who calls her children home at sunset. The song has a deeper meaning for Timorese diaspora. It is a calling to those living abroad to return to the motherland and help rebuild the nation. In 2012, Timor Leste celebrated 10 years of independence and voted in their national election. As Australian children in The Boite Schools’ Chorus learnt the music of Mai Fali Eh it became am emotional soundtrack to an exciting year of progress for the Timorese community living in Australia, Timor Leste and abroad.
