My mum came to Australia on the 29th of January 1993 from Germany. She came here for work and to live here for a while.

She was, and still is, a scientist and had just completed her degrees at a German university. After that she wanted to work on a scientific project at a University. She chose Australia because it is so far and different from Germany, and because science research at Australian universities is of a high standard.

She also wanted to experience the different culture, weather and climate, exotic wildlife and different life style.

My mum came to Canberra when she moved to Australia and planned to stay for two to three years but then she met my dad and decided to stay.

My mum loved the way people are so friendly and laid back. She liked the wide open spaces and the cute kangaroos.
