Josh Fagan’s Story

Josh Fagan at Puckapunyal

I’m Josh Fagan and I’m working at the Bendigo Advertiser, which is a little bit like RMIT’s City Journal but with more wildlife and less post-modern laneway street art.

I grew up in Geelong, which has even less underground art culture. But it was great because you could get the train up to Melbourne as a kid and go berserk at the Daimaru toy store and Cookie man in Myer.

Getting to live in Melbourne a few years later was even better. I got to indulge in some new passions – Shanghai village dumplings and beers at the Oxford Scholar pub after uni. The most important thing to me about Melbourne was always the cow up a tree sculpture in Docklands. I did an assignment on it for my first ever communications subject and thought it was a pretty profound icon.

I really like Melbourne and try and visit as much as I can and I loved that I graduated from RMIT in Melbourne with my comms degree too. Having family and friends living there is a bonus, but the fact that the Cookie Man shop is still open in Myer is the crucial draw card for me.
