Finding a Sunny Side to Life

Leukaemia Foundation
Speedo Dash

Finding a sunny side to life can be hard when blood cancer shadows your days.

Jarrod Dwyer was at the young age of 23 when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in May last year. He knows all too well the emotional struggle faced by families during their journey with blood cancer.

At ten weeks into his treatment Jarrod felt like he had hit a brick wall. With no end in sight, it was Jarrod’s family and friends that gave him the support he needed to fight through his treatment. On the 21st of October, Jarrod won his battle. He finished his treatment and has been in remission ever since.

Jarrod says he hopes to stay this way and that the Sunflower Dash is his way of giving back and hopefully one day helping to find a cure for all forms of leukaemia and lymphomas!

Last year Jarrod dashed in a Superman costume and was Victoria’s highest fundraiser, receiving over $4,000 in donations.

On Sunday June 29 Jarrod will be braving the elements again at Melbourne’s Sunflower Dash to bring sunshine to families currently facing blood cancer. He will have his entire family behind him including his gorgeous girlfriend Amber as he completes the dash this year under the team name The Super Warriors.

The Leukaemia Foundation’s sunniest event raises money to support emotional wellbeing through family counselling, face to face and telephone support, and a Blood Buddies program to pair newly diagnosed people with others on a similar journey. All services are provided free of charge and without ongoing government funding.

The Sunflower Dash is a family friendly event and children can dash for free.

Sign up and get sponsored to brave the elements in a dash with family and friends. You’ll get a pack of sunflowers to pin to your running gear or to make a cheery costume.
