As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we have played a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people. Cancer Council brings together Australia’s leading state and territory cancer organisations with a vision to minimise the threat of cancer for all Australians.
Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day represents hope for a cancer-free future and raises vital funds for cancer research, patient support and prevention programs. It is one of Australia’s best known and most popular fundraising events and has been running for almost forty years. It is the largest national fundraising event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
It’s a very busy day for the team. We arrive at the office at 5am and don’t leave until 9 or 10 in the evening. From our office in St Kilda Road we watch the sun rise to the east and are still around to see it sink into the bay. Luckily for us the weather was perfect this year, the sun shone down, and the sunscreen was liberally applied.
Merchandise is on sale throughout July and August, and although you can donate to Daffodil Day at any time, the last Friday in August is the day it all comes together. The staff and volunteers hit the streets and town squares to really connect with the public. In 2014 we were thrilled to exceed our target and raise $1.9 million.
