A new series of workshops, taught and managed by team leader Lynn, allows members of the public to either practice their crochet skills in a social environment or learn the art at their own pace.
The crochet group, comprises of 15-20 ladies crocheting granny squares, which will be pieced together to form a blanket.
“We are making grannies squares, for Impact for Women, which is a domestic violence group. We are making blankets and cot blankets, to hand out to women who are displaced from their home due to domestic violence,” Lynn says.
Lynn plans to introduce more items to the crochet repertoire soon, such as toys, beanies and garments.
The incentive was developed over three years ago, originally to create 5000 crochet poppies for the iconic 500 Poppies Project- a community tribute to commemorate Australia’s 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing. The stunning exhibition was an honorable tribute to Australia’s servicemen and women.
Now that Lynn and her team have conquered all odds and seized the momentous 5000 poppies project, the groups efforts are now being directed towards assisting, Impact for Women.
“We have been working with, Impact for Women for some time, making charity garments and also blankets,” Lynn says.
The Crochet workshops are led by a small group of volunteer women, new comers are always welcome to join the social exercise. The group involves a mixture of experienced and beginners, congregating at The Atrium , located within Federation Square.
