In 1850 the first branch of Australia’s Federation League was established in Sydney by Reverend John Dunmore Lang, James Wiltshire and Henry Parkes.

The League aimed to abolish transportation of convicts and establish universal male suffrage and a ‘Great Federal Republic of Australia’.

Federation Story is a free interactive exhibition at Federation Square that traces the events, people and ideas that led to Federation. It also celebrates the richly diverse stories and events that have continued to shape our country, our culture and our place in the world.
