Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has offered another update on his injury return after the Brazilian forward was spotted in attendance at the Gunners’ exhilarating win over Manchester United on Sunday. The 25-year-old watched on as his replacement Eddie Nketiah shone in the 3-2 victory, scoring for the hosts either side of a delightful Bukayo Saka strike.
Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez were on the scoresheet for United but it was Nketiah’s vital touch just before the end of normal time that proved decisive and moved Mikel Arteta’s men onto 50 points from 19 games, five ahead of Manchester City.
The brace in north London from Nketiah took his tally of goals for the league season to four with a further five coming in different competitions. The 23-year-old will undoubtedly continue at the tip of the Arsenal attack for the following weeks, but that could change soon with Jesus detailing his hopeful injury return timeline.
Speaking to former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Jesus admitted he hopes to be back on the pitch in “four to five weeks”. Two fixtures against Man City, in the Premier League and FA Cup, along with matches against Everton, Brentford and Aston Villa in the coming weeks will likely come too soon for Jesus, but using his own timeline, he could be available for the clash with Leicester at the end of February.
Once his eventual return finally happens, it will come as a huge boost to Arteta and Arsenal, but it is highly unlikely he will be launched straight back into the starting XI.
