Arsenal transfer target Mykhaylo Mudryk liked a social media post calling on his club to #freeMudryk - in relation to the Gunners' pursuit of the Shakhtar Donetsk star

Arsenal transfer target Mykhailo Mudryk liked a social media post which pictured him behind bars with the caption #FreeMudryk – in a meme pointing towards the Gunners’ pursuit of the Shakhtar Donetsk winger.

The Ukrainian star has been chased by Mikel Arteta‘s side over the past month as they aim to strengthen their squad in order to boost their title hopes.

And Mudryk dropped another potential hint to his future after liking an Instagram post from an account called ‘Arsenal_memes’.

In the post, Mudryk was photoshopped behind bars in jail with a Shakhtar badge and a Ukrainian flag in the background.

The caption read #FreeMudryk and the Shakhtar star was loving the attention.

It is not the first hint he has dropped in regards to his future after he also tuned in to Brighton‘s Premier League clash with Arsenal on New Year’s Eve – and shared his admiration for both bosses.

Mudryk posted an image of both Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, and captioned it “2 top coach”.

De Zerbi and Mudryk worked together when the 43-year-old spent a year in charge at the Ukrainian side during the 2021-22 season, before joining the Seagulls earlier this campaign following the departure of Graham Potter.

With the Gunners’ second offer set to be turned down, it puts a stumbling block in the optimism that a deal would be agreed in this transfer window.

Arsenal also could now face competition from Chelsea, who are understood to be exploring a possible move for Mudryk and are set to hold talks over the player this week.

Sources in Ukraine have told Sportsmail that, with CEO Sergei Palkin now talking to both clubs, Shakhtar are likely to turn down Arsenal’s improved offer as it remains ‘far away’ from their €100m target.

Darijo Srna, Shakhtar’s director of football, is said to be in England for talks over the coming days. The Croatian visits London fairly regularly, Sportsmail understands, because his family live in the city.

Chelsea are not believed to have tabled their own bid for Mudryk, as things stand, but their interest could force his price up. That is despite the winger making clear his desire to join Arsenal.
